This is Yoko.

She's my cat.

She's also a fatty.

There isn't some enormous hidden meaning behind this painting. I just wanted to paint her being Yoko.

Yoko has this way of looking completely ridiculous while somehow still acting like she's the most important creature in the room. She can be cute, weird, dramatic, lazy, curious, and completely unimpressed with everything happening around her.

And I love her for all of it.

A lot of my artwork comes from things I'm thinking about, things I'm struggling with, stupid jokes that get stuck in my head, or imaginary characters I create.

But sometimes the inspiration is sitting right in front of me.

Sometimes it's just this chunky little animal walking around my home who has absolutely no idea how much she means to me.

Pets become these strange little witnesses to our lives.

They're there for the good days.

They're there for the terrible days.

They're there while you're creating.

They're there when you don't want to do anything at all.

And somehow they never need an explanation for which version of you showed up that day.

Yoko doesn't care whether I'm successful.

She doesn't care whether something I painted is good.

She definitely doesn't care whether anybody considers me an artist.

She mostly cares about food, being comfortable, and whatever random cat business she has decided is important that day.

And maybe that's why I love having her around.

Not everything needs to be complicated.

Not everything needs some enormous meaning.

Sometimes something makes you happy simply because you love it.

This is Yoko. She's fat. She's silly. She's cute. And that's enough reason for me to paint her.

Just tell me the medium and I'll complete the catalog information too.
