Watercolor
This piece was inspired by Stranger Things, but for me it became less about the show and more about the feeling of wishing I was surrounded by people.
The figures are intentionally simple and strange. There is activity everywhere, but somehow the person still feels separate from all of it.
I think loneliness is weird because it is not always about physically being alone. Sometimes it is looking around and wishing you had a group. People you could call. People who would show up. People you could experience life with without having to wonder whether you belong there.
Stranger Things has monsters, other dimensions, and completely ridiculous situations, but underneath all of that is a group of people who keep choosing each other. They go through terrifying things together. Nobody has to face the strange parts of life completely alone.
I think that is what I was wishing for when I made this.
The painting is messy, simple, and almost like something pulled out of a memory. That fits because this is not really a picture of specific people I wanted around me. It is more like my own imaginary version of belonging.
Sometimes the strangest thing is being surrounded by an entire world and still wishing you had someone standing beside you.
