This is an advertisement for lotion.

Unfortunately, the person selling it is Buffalo Bill.

Buffalo Lotion is my satire on The Silence of the Lambs. I took one of the darkest and most recognizable parts of the movie and turned it into a completely ridiculous skin care advertisement.

The painting has everything a terrible lotion commercial needs.

Ultra soft.

Extra moisturizing.

No more dry skin.

And of course:

“It puts the lotion on its skin!!”

Except my version takes the situation somewhere even more stupid.

There is still a person trapped in the pit, but instead of being terrified every time Buffalo Bill lowers the lotion down, he's excited about it.

Why?

Because he's constantly jerking off.

So Buffalo Bill lowers another bottle into the pit expecting him to use it on his skin, and this guy is basically thinking:

Nice. More lotion.

It completely destroys the power dynamic of the original scene.

Buffalo Bill thinks he's terrifying this person into following instructions while the guy in the pit has somehow turned the entire horrifying situation into an unlimited lotion supply.

That's the kind of humor I love.

Take something dark.

Take something uncomfortable.

Then make it so fucking stupid that it becomes funny for an entirely different reason.

I also wanted the painting itself to resemble an advertisement. Big lettering, product claims, speech bubbles, bright colors, and ridiculous promises make Buffalo Lotion look like something somebody might actually be trying to sell you.

I finished the entire piece with epoxy resin, giving the surface a glossy, almost commercial appearance. That finish makes even more sense for this piece because it gives this completely fake and deeply questionable product advertisement the polished treatment of something legitimate.

It's horror.

It's advertising.

It's masturbation.

It's moisturizer.

Buffalo Lotion. No more dry skin. For one reason or another.
