Watercolor and Ink on Paper
Sasquatch skateboards alone through the forest, surrounded by trees and completely removed from everything happening outside of them.
I have always liked the idea of Sasquatch existing somewhere deep in the woods, away from people and hidden from the rest of the world. In this painting, I relate to him. Sometimes I want to do exactly what Sasquatch does: disappear into the forest, leave everything behind for a while, and exist somewhere nobody can find me.
But my version of escaping isn't about doing nothing. Sasquatch is still skateboarding. He has taken something that makes him happy with him into the place where he feels most free. There is no audience, no competition, no expectation, and nobody watching. He isn't skating to impress anyone. He is simply skating because he wants to.
The forest represents isolation, but not necessarily loneliness. There is a difference between being alone and wanting to be alone. Sometimes removing yourself from everything gives you enough quiet to actually enjoy being yourself again.
Sasquatch is usually something people are desperately trying to find. In this painting, maybe he doesn't want to be found.
And sometimes, neither do I.
