Relief Is Not an Exit

$150.00

Year: 2025
Size: 14 × 20 inches
Display: Floating art frame
Medium: Watercolor cutout, paint-marker outlines, and hand-painted glass

A gun, colorful “fun pills,” and a cigarette represent the ways we sometimes search for relief when life becomes overwhelming. Sometimes we want to take something to feel happy, smoke a cigarette to escape for a moment, or imagine ending the pain entirely. I created this piece to release those difficult feelings instead of allowing them to consume me.

The reason’s I have continued to persevere every day is because I lost my cousin to suicide and witnessing what that loss did to my uncle and everyone who loved. That experience showed me that suicide does not end pain. It passes that pain to the people left behind. Life can be incredibly hard, and we all experience dark moments, but I believe we can survive and overcome them.
